Beauty, Unity, Truth and Illumination – the four great principles of the cosmos. Beauty and unity are a dance, a couplet. They’re soul mates. These two principles can’t be separated. If we want to know what beauty is we can only know it through unity. To see where everything is connected, to see the perfection of the whole shimmering in its myriad ways, this is beauty. Beauty is quintessentially human. It’s the crystallisation of our perception. Yet it’s beyond the senses.
Where is beauty? What is it? How do we find it? The fact is that it lies beyond us. This is why we will always yearn for it. Beauty is an experience of the divine. It’s to see the face of God. How many people are given that? We may believe we know what that is, but we don’t. I am reminded of this wonderful story about Lao Tzu…
